Former national coach Tim Neilson has said Australias welcoming response to new coach Mickey Arthur indicates that it can re-emerge as the World No.1 Test team.
“Australia could be the No.1 Test side in 12 months. We knock over West Indies, then South Africa and have every reason to go to the Ashes as contenders to the throne,” news.com.au quoted Arthur,as saying.
He,however, warned that Australia should maintain the momentum by achieving the Test series whitewash against India.
He admitted that a change of mentor has instilled enthusiasm in the team.
“I am sure a change of voice has been positive,a different perspective. Mickey has had the challenge of having new players come into the side. There is a genuine enthusiasm from some blokes to make their mark, he said.
Nielsen also backed out-of form wicket-keeper Brad Haddin to remain calm, and urged his side to learn from the past lessons to “keep their foot on the throats” of the visitors.
“I hope they continue their momentum and win inside three days in Adelaide. There is definitely potential for a 4-0 sweep,” Nielsen said.
“Australia has got them under real mental pressure and a game hold over them. You give up a little bit and all of a sudden they can come back, he added
