NEW DELHI, Feb 11: Manoj Prabhakar has, in an appeal to the Delhi police commissioner T K Kakkar, sought adequate security arrangements for his family and himself following an attack on a guard outside his residence by an unidentified person last night.

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) office announced in Mumbai its decision to file a Rs 5 crore suit against Prabhakar and the magazine Outlook which first ran the former all-rounder’s allegations that he had been offered Rs 25 lakh by a colleague for “playing below his usual standards”.

Prabhakar condemned the forces that were behind the attack last night and said, “I seem to be alone and there is no support.”

Following the attack, Prabhakar has filed an FIR with the Kalkaji police station. The intruder attacked and bit guard Yadav when the latter stopped him. “The moment reports of BCCI filing the suit came out, there were people out there to prevent me from coming out in the open with names,” Prabhakar said.

OnWednesday morning, Prabhakar’s wife Sandhya looked terribly worried by yesterday’s incident. “I have not been able to go out anywhere. Even our son Rohan has not gone to school today although he is having his examinations. See what we are getting for telling the truth,” she said.

Prabhakar said he will contest the suit “to its logical conclusion.” He charged BCCI with being interested “only in publicity and not the truth. I am not afraid of telling the truth,” he added.

Prabhakar described as “fake” the Chandrachud panel report — absolving the players of any match-fixing and pulling him up for levelling “imaginary and unrealistic” allegations.

“I was surprised that Chandrachud did not ask me to reveal any name during our meeting in Delhi some months ago,” he said.

He said he had talked to the former BCCI secretary and present ICC chief Jagmohan Dalmiya about the betting incident in strict confidence “but suddenly I found the Chandrachud committee appointed.”

“Nobody seems to beinterested in the truth. Even N Venkata Rao, secretary of the AP Cricket Association, had come out against certain players but back-tracked and denied everything during the inquiry.”
