Powerless to file I-T returns

As far as excuses are concerned, this one takes the cake. Last week, Congress MP from Jalandhar Rana Gurjeet Singh wrote to Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram requesting that the last date for filing Income Tax returns be extended. And, his reason for making the request? Hundreds of chartered accountants in Punjab were reportedly unable to prepare the IT returns of their clients because of the continuous power breakdown in the state.
