Madhu Srivastav wasn8217;t involved in the riots of 20028212;at least there were no cases of rioting filed against him then. But that seems to be the only clean card he holds. By his own admission, he has 17 cases against him8212;ranging from criminal intimidation, assault, prohibition, trespassing, using criminal force to stop a public servant from discharging his duties, ransom to attempt to murder.
His supporters say that the goodwill he has earned among villagers is what keeps him going. 8220;Not a single case has been proved against him and in his last 15 years as MLA, he has never been in jail. But unfortunately for him, he is seen as a strongman,8221; said Harshit Talati, a BJP councilor.
Srivastav, the three-time sitting BJP MLA from Waghodia, is again in the fray. Originally from Uttar Pradesh, Srivastav started in Vadodara as a petty bootlegger and ended up contesting the assembly polls as an Independent candidate in the civic polls.
His latest brush with controversy was when a string operation caught him bragging about how he bribed Zaheera Sheikh and her family to turn hostile during the Best Bakery case trial in Vadodara.
Recently, Congressman Jayesh Patel complained to Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami about Srivastav8217;s strong-arm tactics in Waghodia. Patel also alleged that as chairman of Baroda Dairy, Srivastav has been committing several irregularities. But Srivastav remains unfazed: 8220;I dare anyone to prove any of these allegations against me.8221;
