VADODARA, AUG 31: With rooms of the city polytechnic college being earmarked as strongrooms to store ballot boxes used during the Lok Sabha elections, the college has decided to call off classes for the last two weeks of September.

Talking to Express Newsline, college principal H Patel said that while only one section of the building would be used for the purpose, security arrangements would be provided by the government. 8220;Counting is expected to be completed in the first week, while the next week would used for cleaning up the place, thus affecting classes for two weeks,8221; said Patel.

According to an earlier proposal, Patel said, it was decided to call off the classes even during the time of elections as there was a proposal to utilise even that section of the college where classes were being conducted.

8220;But this would have affected the academic schedule of the college,8221; the principal, said adding that that university vice-chancellor had however turned down the proposal.

The list of the names of the teaching and non-teaching staff, who would be involved in election-related work, had also been released, he added.
