61 detained as a precautionary measure
A total of 61 persons were on Sunday arrested by the police to ensure free and fare elections in the Pune, Baramati and Khed Lok Sabha constituencies as well as the 18 Assembly segments in the district.
The number of the persons detained as a precautionary measure in the city and its rural outskirts has reached 4,871 with these arrests, according to a report forwarded on Monday to the Election Commission by the officials from the district collectorate.
The police have served non-bailable warrants on 1,646 persons as a precautionary measure adopted to ensure no untoward incident takes place during the elections.
With the seizure of an unlicensed firearm on Saturday, the report said the number of illegally possessed weapons detected in the district has reached 79.
Owners of 18 licensed firearms deposited their weapons with the police on Sunday. The number of firearms deposited with the police has reached 770, according to the report.
Training camps for govt officers
The district administration has made arrangements to train the government officials assigned for election duties in the Pune, Baramati and Khed Lok Sabha constituencies and the 18 Assembly segments in the district in three stages.
A press communique issued here on Monday said the training camps for the government officials in rural parts of the district will be held at Junnar, Manchar, Ghodegaon, Rajgurunagar, Wadgaon Maval, Paud, Bhor, Shirur, Daund, Indapur, Baramati, Saswad and Ambegaon.
Training camps for the officials in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad will be organised at College of Engineering Pune COEP, Shrimati Gulabbai Irani Kanyashala in Khadki, Agricultural College, Baburao Sanas Sports Ground, Alpabachat Bhavan, Shivaji Maratha High School, B J Medical College, Nehru Memorial Hall and Annasaheb Magar Stadium.
