
Malhotra sure of victory, says will scrap BRT
Putting his faith in anti-incumbency and the presence of BSP, BJP chief ministerial candidate V K Malhotra said his party would get two-third majority in the November 29 Assembly elections.
Promising a composite transport policy to manage traffic in the capital, Malhotra said, 8220;The city should have elevated trams, low-floor buses and an expanding metro system.8221; Linking pollution levels in the Capital with the 2010 Commonwealth Games: 8220;Delhi might lose the mega event unless appropriate steps are taken to curb pollution.8221;

During the last five years, the wealth of sitting MLAs contesting the Assembly elections has more than doubled, an NGO has claimed. With about 45 incumbent MLAs seeking another term, the assets declared by them show an average increase of 211 per cent or Rs 1.8 crore per MLA, said Delhi Election Watch, an independent citizen8217;s body. Assembly members with a 10-time rise in their assets since 2003 are Congress8217; Barkha Singh from RK Puram constituency, whose assets increased by 1,002 per cent, and Congress8217; MLA from Timarpur Surinder Pal Singh, whose wealth jumped by 972 per cent. Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit has more than doubled her wealth 8212; from Rs 46 lakh to Rs 1.2 crore 8212; while her BJP rival from the New Delhi constituency Vijay Jolly8217;s assets have increased from Rs 72 lakh to 3 crore. Transport Minister Harun Yusuf, seeking a fourth term from the Ballimaran constituency, has quadrupled his wealth, with a 482 per cent increase, while opposition leader Jagdish Mukhi, contesting from Janakpuri, has registered a 412 per cent increase, the report said.
