CHANDIGARH, Aug 6: The Punjab and Haryana High Court while accepting the second interim report of investigations in the alleged rape case involving a Mumbai-based film producer, has directed the Chandigarh Police not to arrest him before the permission of the court.

A division bench of the court comprising Justice V. K. Jhanji and Justice Swatanter Kumar, after going through the second interim report of investigations in the case put forth by the Chandigarh Police, also directed to seal it again and place the same under the custody of the Registrar of the Court. It was earlier placed before the court in a sealed cover by the police.

The report was sought by the high court after the producer Kirman Mistri had put forth a plea before the court that he was being implicated in the case and the police had shown undue haste in arresting him after registering an FIR. During earlier hearings in the case, the court had also made certain harsh observations against the concerned police officers dealing with the case, following which the SHO Sector 17, P.S. Malik was sent to the lines.

The case was registered in the Sector 17 police station on the complaint of a Sector 46 beautician, who had alleged that Mistri had raped her in a posh hotel in Sector 17, after he gave her assurances of getting her a role in a film. The case was adjourned to September 18.
