Man held for forging passport
The IGI police on Monday arrested a resident of Bijnor for allegedly forging a passport. Accused Mohammed Akram was reportedly trying to pass off his two step-brothers — Shamim and Nasir — as his sons in order to take them to Paris. The immigration officer, however, grew suspicious and started questioning Mohammed, who eventually broke down and confessed to having forged the passports. He was booked on flight SU 538 to Moscow, from where he was on his way back to Paris. According to the police, Mohammed lives in Paris and had come to India a few months ago. He was asked by his father to take Shamim and Nasir back with him. When he had problems arranging their papers, Mohammed allegedly decided to pass them off as his sons and accordingly added their names to his passport. His original passport had been issued from Paris. A case has been registered against him under Sections 419 (cheating by impersonation), 420 (cheating), 468 (forgery) and 471 (using as genuine a forged document) of the Indian Penal Code(IPC).
