NEW DELHI, JULY 29: Delhi police have arrested a former Uttar Pradesh MLA for posing as a Rajya Sabha member and duping a person on the pretext of providing him a government job.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Central Uday Sahay said today that Om Prakash Chaudhary 43, an ex-Congress MLA from Shikohabad Assembly constituency of Uttar Pradesh, between March 1996 to March 1999, was arrested by the Nabi Karim police for duping Nelson Dass of Rs 45,500 by promising him a government job.

Dass, in his complaint, said Chowdhary posed himself to be a member of th Rajya Sabha and gave him his visiting card. He assured him that he had good contacts in the offices of the Central Government and politicians and ministers.

Dass paid Rs 45,500 to Chowdhary in return of the appointment letter issued by the office of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting as a clerk. A letter calling him for training was also handed over to him.

By the time the fraud was realised, Chowdhary, who was staying in the Arya Tourist Lodge, had checked out and fled. He was arrested after a long chase. Further investigation was in progress to ascertain the involvement of any other person in the case, Mr Sahay said.
