Poetry is an expression of one’s emotions

According to him, he writes “when the urge gets compulsive”. He was interested in poetry since early childhood and one of the great influences of his interest was his father, who was himself a poetry lover and also formed the first association of poets Bazme Azam

All his books are dedicated to his master, Sant Gulab Singh Ji, who according to him, taught him the true meaning of life. His books are dedicated to God, thanking him for love and life. According to Singh, “there is so much to life than mere flesh and blood. The days and moments with their passing kicks cannot vanquish the never die spirit and deathless soul of man. Dust, the wayside bandit, cannot rob man of his celestial heritage. We neither know nor should care to know the mystery of life . We must learn to live in accordance with His Supreme Will. Therein lies our salvation”.

And here lies the essence of his writings. Inspired by the Supreme, and Sant ji who he terms as as the catalyst. He says that men like Sant ji who inspire people to follow people to follow the right path are messengers of God.

At Thy Feet is a collection of 34 poems is an anthology of poems which are offered to the Master (Sant Ji), whose love for the author is matched by the latter’s devotion. The theme that predominates in this collection is that of Love which according to Singh is the very sustenance to life. Being of a religious temperament his concept of love is one-dimensional, pure without a trace of profanity. In the poem Fill my cup, there is a thirst for communication with the divine. Love according to him is what keeps one going and is the most enchanting of all forms of human experience.

Love is supreme his book of short stories, was widely acclaimed and was translated into Hindi and Punjabi. “All my writings are from my heart and are a set of emotions, they are for my own satisfaction and that is one reason I don’t put my books for sale. I give them to people who I know would care for them, and understand the thought behind them.” A serial called Dard was made on his book The Mother and other stories, by Jalandhar Doordarshan. “I did not take a penny for the stories or the script as those were my emotions, which you can’t sell.”

When I wanted to know that why he hadn’t written any stories based on his experiences as a lawyer and a judge, he said that he wanted to expand his horizon, and did not want to be confined to his profession. “When I retired as a High Court Judge I spent my pension in seeing the world, a childhood dream, and that taught me so much about people, life, love and death, all that is reflected in my writings.

The Mother and other stories is a collection, mostly on Singh’s true life experiences and caters to a variety of tastes, as the themes of all the stories are various and told in an arresting style of narration. Singh also designs the covers for all his books, an art he is quite shy about.

His pen name is Be Sabr, Takhallaz in Urdu, according to him which is a visiting card for poets and poetry.”

Chand Aur Valvale which is his is latest book of Urdu poetry is his thought process and involves the turmoils of the mind. “It is very close to my heart”. All my writings are a manifestation of the emotions I have undergone, be it pain, love or belief. Besides his writings music is his other passion in life. And his room which is stacked with cassettes is a proof of it.

His message to his readers is not to confine ourselves to worldly positions but to rise much higher by using our inner voice which we usually don’t use. He did not disclose what he is working on presently but said that it is something that deals with the philosophy of life. Well whatever it is, all your fans are looking foward to it.
