This is surely one example of how the lack of co-ordination among various departments of Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) creates nuisance for citizens and waste public money. A civic activist Vivek Velankar has alleged that the road, which had recently been tarred after months of digging for laying storm water drains on one side, has again being dug up for the same reason.
Last year, PMC road department had done the surfacing of Patwardhan Baug road by spending Rs 60 lakh. The work took nearly one year to complete. They had laid storm water line on one side of the road, while on the other side; they put some storm water chambers at some distance with connectivity to the other side.
“However, today I was shocked to notice this beautiful road getting dug after few months of completion. I immediately contacted road department to enquire about the purpose of digging and they were totally unaware about it. Ultimately, we came to know that it was the ward office, which started laying of storm water drainage line on remaining side of the road. They also said that there are complaints from residents in adjacent lanes about water logging,” said Velankar. “For years PMC Road department lacks coordination with not only with other agencies like MSEDCL and BSNL, but also within the PMC’’s departments like water and sewage,”he said. Velankar has questioned the lack of co-ordination between the civic departments, which results into the wastage of public money and creates trouble for common man.
