PUNE, Nov 9: Several members of the City Improvement Committee are all set to oppose the State Government8217;s directive to the Pune Municipal Corporation PMC for initiating action to convert a massive plot in Yerawada, reserved for public and semi-public purpose, into residential plot.
The members of the committee, cutting across the party lines, are in mood to send back the proposal, put up by the civic administration. A committee member said the PMC was in need of reserved plots in Yerawada to facilitate better civic amenities. He said the committee members and a few officials had visited the plot and had found that the large plot could be used for public purpose like hospitals, recreation center, gardens, offices and school and colleges.
Another committee member said the corporation would set a wrong precedent if it showed green signal to the government. He said several landlords, whose plots had been reserved for various purpose, would make the similar demand if the committee approved the proposal.
Meanwhile, the administration has decided to strictly follow rules and laws while dealing with the case. A senior civic official said the administration would send a letter to the State Government if the city improvement committee rejects the proposal. He said the administration would follow all the procedure viz getting the proposal sanctioned from the general body.
