Prime Minister Manmohan Singh turned 73 on Sunday and celebrated mid-air on way to Geneva.

Singh, who usually neither remembers nor celebrates his birthday, cut a cake on Air India Number One Tanjore with his wife Gursharan Kaur by his side. He was greeted by senior officials and journalists accompanying him on his nine-day tour of Britain and the US.

President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam sent a bouquet to Singh8217;s official residence in New Delhi this morning. The PM responded with a telephone call before he left New York. Andhra Pradesh Governor Surjit Singh Barnala also wished the PM. Singh, who was born in Gah, now in Pakistan, had once said the date of birth given by his mother to the school became his birthday. 8212;PTI
