CHANDIGARH, March 6: Keen to promote information industry in the state, the Punjab Government has asked the Punjab Urban Development Authority (PUDA) to relax the ban on setting up of computer and information software units in residential areas in S.A.S.Nagar near here.

This was stated by principal secretary, industries, Ramesh Inder Singh, while talking to media persons here.

He said this step has been been necessitated in the light of big potential for software export units being created as the Centre was setting up an information technology park involving an investment of more than Rs 100 crore in the satellite township.

Singh further revealed that Punjab Government also proposes to create a dedicated state-specific venture capital fund of Rs 20 crore for the growth of software industry.
