NEW DELHI, SEPT 7: The Delhi Union of Journalists DUJ, today called upon the Press Council of India and the Election Commission to ensure that attacks and assaults on the press were stopped immediately.

Reacting sharply to the attack on Chandigarh-based Desh Sevak cameramen Ajay Verma and a local journalist in Faridkot Punjab Naresh Sehgal on September 5, reportedly by a Minister, Sukhbir Badal, the DUJ opined that political parties be urged to exercise restraint while dealing with press persons.

Letters had been sent by the journalists organisation to both the Press Council and the Election Commission, DUJ president S K Pande said in a release here.

The DUJ further cautioned political parties from making 8220;gender-insensitive and gutter culture8221; personalised comments that attract the press.
