PUNE, July 2: With traders and citizens voluntarily assisting the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in the highway-widening project, the civic body has reciprocated with an assurance of complete rehabilitation of persons whose shops or houses have been completely demolished.

Persons who have been rendered homeless will be given temporary sheds in Thergaon where all civic facilities will be provided. Shopkeepers and traders who have given their land for highway widening will be alloted shops at the shopping complex buildings. The decisions were taken at a meeting presided by mayor Hanumanth Bhosale. The affected traders and the citizens, besides senior PCMC officials attended the meeting. A total of 75 shops and 39 houses were completely demolished in the widening of the eleven kilometer stretch from Phugewadi to Nigdi. Most of the affected persons are from Kasarwadi, Pimpri and Chinchwad areas.

Transporters whose shops have been demolished at Kasarwadi have been given plots at Transportnagar in Nigdi. Municipal Commissioner Pravinsinh Pardeshi said that the other traders will be given shops on lease at the Sant Tukaramnagar shopping complex and at the Sant Tukaram compled at Nigdi. Scrap traders will be allowed to construct temporary sheds in various areas.
