
PUNE, Nov 16: After touring Surat to study the cleanliness drive implemented there, members and officials of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) will now go on a study tour to Baroda and Ahmedabad to witness slum rehabilitation programmes.
About ten to eleven persons, including five corporators, officials and one member of the Maharashtra Social and Housing Action League (MASHAL), will participate in the tour. The dates for the tour are yet to be finalised, but the civic standing committee approved an expenditure of Rs one lakh on Thursday.
The PCMC plans to undertake slum upgradation programmes in Milindnagar, Adarshnagar, Laxmannagar, Subhashnagar, Uttamnagar, Sanjaynagar and Gautamnagar. Members participating in the tour will study whether concepts from the slum rehabilitation projects in Baroda and Ahmedabad can be put to use here.
Meanwhile the standing committee on Thursday approved various civic developmental works which will cost Rs 5.92 crore. These include construction of water reservoirs in sector 5, sector 20, Sangvi, Gavlimatha in Bhosari, laying of underground drainage lines in Yeshwantnagar, river road in Pimpri, Kasarwadi and the construction of roads in sector 22 at Nigdi and in Pradhikaran sector 27A.
