Innovation Challenge, an initiative by the Delhi government aimed at making the Capital’s air cleaner, has received 48 entries from across India, with submissions now open till November 15. The contest, now listed on the national innovation portal Manthan.GOV.IN, invites affordable, implementable solutions to reduce PM2.5 and PM10 levels. Of the total entries, 30 proposals are from Delhi-NCR and 18 from states including Telangana, Kerala, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab.

Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa said the strong response reflects citizens’ commitment to cleaner air. “This is not just a contest but a collective mission for India’s future,” he said.

Around 68% of the entries focus on air purification, while 32% address vehicular emissions. The earlier deadline for submitting proposals was October 31.

The Innovation Challenge follows a three-stage process: digital screening by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), expert evaluation with Rs 5 lakh support for shortlisted teams, and final verification by national laboratories. Winners will receive Rs 50 lakh, with top solutions to be adopted across Delhi.

The department said that all public queries were resolved within six hours of submission, underscoring its proactive approach.

Sirsa also said that Delhi is “crowd-sourcing ideas nationwide to make clean air a shared responsibility”. He added that extending the submission date would help more innovators participate.
