PUNE, May 21: The Pune Camp Merchants Association has sought the intervention of Lt Gen J Padmanabhan, GOC-in-C, Southern Command into the functioning of the Pune Cantonment Board PCB.

In a statement issued on Friday the PCMA has alleged that the PCB was insensitive to their demands.

The PCMA are up in arms over the proposed amendments to bye-law No 43 of the Cantonment Act that imposed restrictions on movement of vehicles and people on certain streets. According to the PCMA, these laws were archaic and 8220;undemocratic.8221; 8220;The law was passed in 1927 when India was under British rule,8221; points out Anand Kochhar, chairman of the PCMA. 8220;Under the Indian Constitiution such restrictions have no place and violate our fundamental right,8221; he added. PCMA has charged that 8220;there is no provision in law to impose the pay and park scheme.8221; The PCMA has taken strong objection to the PCB8217;s style of functioning and has asked for more transperancy from the office bearers.
