
CHANDIGARH, JULY 13: The various relief funds set up by the government for the welfare of widows and families of martyrs of ongoing conflict in Kashmir are attracting still more donations.
Parwanoo Industrial Association handed over a cheque of Rs 10,07,700 to the Chief Minister today. The employees of Gabriel India Limited handed over cheques of Rs 50,000, Him Informative Company Rs 15,000, Megtronic Devices Private Limited Rs 25,00, Rehri Khokha Union Rs 1,100, Sarve Dharam Sabha Rs 1,01,140, Parwanoo Beopar Mandal Rs 51,000, Star Children Club Rs 1000, Mahila Kirtan Mandal Rs 4,120, Ashadeep Tailoring School Rs 2,500, Jabli Gram Panchayat Rs 13,000.
The Punjab State Veterinary Officer’s Association has decided to contribute one day’s salary by all the veterinarians working in the Department of Animal Husbandry Punjab for Punjab War Heroes Family Welfare Fund".According to Dr G.S. Chahal, president of the Association, the amount collected will be handed over to the Punjab Chief Minister. The Punjab Sub-Divisional Engineers Association have decided to donated two days’ salary according to M.S. Nijjer, president of the Association.
City Mayor Kewal Krishan Addiwal paid homage to Kargil martyr Bikramjit Singh and participated in martyr’s funeral procession from Chandimandir to Kubheri.
The Sector 21 Senior Citizens Welfare Society donated Rs 50,102 as contribution towards the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund for Kargil operation. O.P. Sharma, secretary of the Society, along with a delegation, today presented the cheque to Vineeta Rai, Advisor to the UT Administrator. Another cheque of Rs 10,000 was presented to the Adviser by the Welfare Committee, Sector 27. 2,000 woollen vests, scarves for soldiersA truck carrying 2,000 woollen vests and 2,000 woolen scarfs for soldiers deployed in Kargil, Drass and Batalik was flagged-off by the Punjab Governor Lt Gen B.K.N. Chhibber (Retd) today.
The woollen vests and "necks", made at the initiative of the International Punjabi Society, were handed over to Army officers at the N-Area near the Chandigarh airport. The woollens would be airlifted to the forward locations tomorrow. Residents of Punjab Government houses in Sector 33-A have contributed Rs 1,100 for the welfare of soldiers serving in Kargil. The amount was handed over the the local office of The Indian Express by their representative, Harpal Kaur, today.
Celebrate Independence day in honour of martyrs
PANCHKULA: The Panchkula Residents’ Welfare Association, in a letter to the DC, has suggested that this time the Independence Day should be celebrated with a difference. In a statement issued by the general secretary of the association, Subhash Papneja, he said this time, it should be celebrated as the day of the Kargil and Drass martyrs.
