Retired calcutta high court justice alok kumar chakrabarty, who heads the judicial commission that has been set up to investigate the death of Rizwanur Rehman, said on Tuesday he will try his best to finish the job in time and assured of a transparent probe.
“Some officers have spoken to me on behalf of Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee regarding the case. But I have not yet received any formal letter of appointment and the terms of reference to be probed. But I will try my best to finish the job within the stipulated time. And I will conduct an open court to which everybody, including the media, will have access,” Chakrabarty said.
He added: “ I will ensure that whoever is needed for examining is called.”Chief Secretary Amit Kiran Deb has earlier said the government will give three months to the commission to wrap up its inquiry.
The CID, meanwhile, seems to have slowed down the pace of its investigation. No fresh raids were conducted in the past two days. The visit of Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) Gyanwant Singh and Deputy Commissioner (Detective Department) Ajay Kumar to the CID headquarters at Bhavani Bhavan was also cancelled at the last moment on Monday. And no one was questioned by the agency on Tuesday.
Senior CID officers failed to come up with a proper explanation as to why Singh and Kumar have not been interrogated yet.
“We will call Ajay Kumar and Gyanwant Singh in due time. No one is above the law,” said CID Additional Director-General Bhupinder Singh.
