World champions Australia will have a point to prove in next month’s ICC Champions Trophy, batsman Matthew Hayden said on Wednesday.
The important thing about this competition is that we’ve never won it,’’ Hayden told reporters in Brisbane. ‘‘We’ve won a lot of other world tournaments but this one here we’ve performed poorly,’’ added the opener. ‘‘So I guess the great challenge for us is to meet the expectations,’’ said Hayden, who has made 20 centuries in 55 Tests and a further four hundreds and 22 half-centuries in 95 one-day internationals.
The squad depart on Thursday for Amsterdam before the Champions Trophy in England.
