Little giant
Where there is space, there are supershoppes. That seems to be the latest buzz in the suburbs. Another mega store 8212; 10,000 sqft 8212; opens in Goregaon W on October 1, 1998. Touted as Mumbai8217;s biggest store for children and we believe them, Kids Central, takes care of everything the age group 0 to 12 might desire. It will stock clothes, stationery, toys, music and computers on racks no higher than 3.5 ft so that the children can touch and feel the display. There will be other facilities to enhance the shopping experience like an amusement section which will have slides, playpens and a video games arena. A cafeteria and party hall are also part of the arcade. Now budding shopaholics can hold their birthday parties in the middle of a superstore.

Bollywood style
Kavita Krishnamurthy may be better known for her playback singing in films but now she has turned to the stage. She will be singing in the Hindi drama DilHi To Hai. The play is about two career-driven professionals who live in Mumbai 8212; Sonali, played by Neha Sharad, is a lyricist Kavita will be singing for her and Varun Bharadwaj is a successful music-director. They meet through work and fall in love. But just like a Bollywood film the path of love does not run smooth, and they have a fall out! But again just like in the movies, it all ends well with Sonali and Varun doing the happily ever after thing. For those who love the movies, even on stage, this is worth a dekko.

Ad man
The Advertising and Standards Council of India ASCI have elected BharatPatel, chairman and managing director Procter amp; Gamble India, to be their chairman. And Chitralekha group8217;s Bharat Kapadia has been voted vice-chairman. Patel hopes to spread the self-regulation movement within the advertising industry and enlarge the ASCI8217;s membership base. In the last year, 139 complaints were reviewed by the Consumer Complaints Council of which 66 were upheld as they were in contravention of the ASCI code. Solid rock
A diamond is a girl8217;s best friend. And De Beers and the city8217;s jewellers are determined to turn this phrase into an epidemic. They have joined hands to target first the Diwali shopaholics and then the brides, their mothers, mothers-in-law and all women who might attend a wedding this year. So, the first offering is the Sampatti collection. Central to it is a multi-stone ringwith a 20 point plus central diamond. Priced at Rs 15,000 and above, the collection attempts to be quot;classic 8230; with a modern twistquot;. Apparently, diamonds are also perfect for everyday wear and to tap that market, a collection of jewellery quot;that can be worn casually, any time of the dayquot; is also being pushed.
According to a press release, apparently, quot; Not only do women love receiving diamonds, they also enjoy giving away these beautiful rocks as special gifts.quot; If you buy that, you will buy anything. Anyway, what De Beers hopes is that you will buy their slogan quot;A diamond is foreverquot; and that this season their profits will turn to gold. Available at all leading jewellery stores.
Beauty8217;s a beast
Today, beauty lies in the hands of the beautician. Or at least that8217;s what people involved with cosmetics would like us to believe because beauty also means big bucks. So, the Cosmetology Society of India CSI has organised a one-day seminar where dermatologists, cosmetologists will provide informationon day-to-day hair and skin care products read convoluted scientific jargon to beauticians so the latter can answer their client8217;s questions better read sell more products. The CSI claims that it is the only society which brings together medical practitioners and beauticians on the same platform to share new techniques and trends. The highlight of the seminar will be a talk by Dr Ashok Gupta of Bombay Hospital on the latest developments on laser and cosmetology. Wonder how women survived all these centuries before the origin of the CSI? And has the CSI heard of a school of thought which believes that all a woman needs for beauty care is available in her kitchen. We can tell you, for sure, that these questions will not be answered in this seminar.
