Spot Light

From the outside, you might mistake it for just another South Mumbai restaurant 8212; but for the entire schedule of the ongoing soccer World Cup pasted on the door. Before that, a life-size cut out of South African speedster Allan Donald, adorned the entrance of Lovji and Aspan Cooper8217;s Patuck restaurant or Sports Cafe at Flora Fountain 8212; Mumbai8217;s first eating house for sports freaks. Inside the restaurant, soccer enthusiasts feast on the restaurant8217;s television sets 8212; three in all. And the atmosphere is electric. Jaideep Gandhi, the brain behind Sports Cafe hit upon the idea of turning the restaurant around eight months ago. First, he brought two stunning posters of tennis stars, Stefan Edberg and Ivan Lendl, straight out of his bedroom and put them up in the restaurant. A few more posters have been added since.

A pair of boxing gloves,a couple of cricket bats, a chess board and a basketball net lend authenticity to the theme. One wall has a replica of the soccer World Cup logo and now Gandhi is working on a miniature soccer field which will go up on another wall in the next few days.
