NASHIK, Feb 13: Wholesale onion marketyards in the district will reopen on Monday, after 10 days of closure, with traders deciding this evening to withdraw the boycott of auctions.

The marketyards have been closed since February 5, when traders decided to boycott the auctions to demand lifting of the ban on onion exports.

The token boycott on February 5 led to an indefinite boycott from February 8, bringing trading at the marketyards to a standstill. On February 9, the Centre declared that 75,000 tonnes of exports would be permitted in the next three months. However, traders continued their stir.

The notification was received today and traders’ doubts were cleared. After traders and exporters held meetings, with their own groups and with District Collector Manoj Saunik, it was decided to start trading from Monday.
