After a brief lull, the city’s peace was shattered once again today. One person was killed and 15 injured in a fresh outbreak of violence, prompting police firing and imposition of curfew.Trouble started in the minority-dominated Juhapura area in the afternoon, when the police arrested two persons — Mohammed Arif, a known anti-social, and Farooq Anna for their alleged role in the communal riots. Following today’s arrests, a group of women staged protests outside the local police station, demanding the duo’s release. Meanwhile, local youths came out in large numbers in Juhapura and the adjoining Guptanagar area and started pelting stones. A truck-driver was hit on the head, causing the vehicle to veer out of control and land in a ditch. He was killed on the spot.Angry mobs also attacked the Juhapura police outpost, forcing the policemen to shift to a safer place. The situation worsened as additional police forces, accompanied by BSF personnel arrived on the scene. The security forces lobbed tear-gas shells and opened fire to control the mob. The mob retaliated with crude bombs, injuring ACP (Sector I) Satish Sharma and two police constables. Among the injured, a woman and a girl are reported to be in a serious condition. Police sources have termed the situation as tense but under control. Meanwhile, tension gripped Godhra also after an autorickshaw driver was stabbed near Bawa Madi locality. The police have launched a hunt for the assailant. According to police sources, the autorickshaw driver entered into an argument over fares .In the midst of the argument, an unidentified person stabbed the driver, injuring him seriously.
