The kidney transplant racket8217;s kingpin in its net, the CBI on Tuesday broadened the scope of probe. It conducted extensive searches at the hostel room of Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital staff nurse Linda, who allegedly provided service to Amit Kumar.

Linda, who comes from Manipur, was arrested on January 31 on charges of assisting Amit Kumar. She worked in RML as a staff nurse but provided 8220;part-time services8221; to Kumar, sources said. CBI officials said they have recovered some documents from her room but declined to elaborate, maintaining only that the documents are being 8220;analysed8221;.

Meanwhile, Dr Saraj Kumar, who surrendered in a Gurgaon court on Monday, was remanded to CBI8217;s custody for 14 days. Saraj Kumar and Amit8217;s brother Jeevan were the doctors who allegedly helped Amit Kumar carry out hundreds of kidney transplants. Jeevan Kumar is still on the run.

CBI teams have, meanwhile, fanned out in neighbouring states to nab Jeevan; the Interpol had issued a red corner notice against the brothers on February 1.

At RML Hospital, the CBI sleuths sealed Linda8217;s hostel room after taking the documents. Linda had reportedly come in Kumar8217;s contact during her initial years in the nursing profession.

Sources, meanwhile, said Amit Kumar, 40, brought from Nepal on Saturday, was cooperating with the CBI team in all respects. CBI officials and forensic experts who searched Kumar8217;s Gurgaon residence yesterday are of the opinion that the house was fully equipped to conduct an operation at a moment8217;s notice, sources said.

CBI officials claimed to have got some clues from yesterday8217;s raids but did not want to divulge details.

Amit Kumar has been remanded to CBI8217;s custody till February 22.

The investigating agency had registered a case against the kidney racket kingpin and others on February 8 under IPC Sections 420 cheating, 342 illegal confinement, 326 causing grievous hurt, 506 criminal intimidation and 120-B criminal conspiracy, and Section 18 and 19 of Transplantation of Human Organs Act of 1994.
