The diagnosis was bad to begin with but got better as the day wore on. Virender Sehwag will probably not play the Second Test, on doctors’ advice, but he was discharged from hospital late at night and the condition of captain Rahul Dravid also improved, enabling him to attend evening practice.

But it was scary for a while today as news kept filtering out of various members of the Indian team falling prey to fever and/or other complaints.

It’s due to a change in the weather, said Dr SP Byotra of Sir Ganga Ram hospital, who has been examining Sehwag.

‘‘They were earlier in Chennai, where the weather was warmer’’, he said. ‘‘It could also happen due to the infected food. Sehwag had a problem in swallowing, throat infection can also happen due to the bad quality of food.’’

Dravid and Kaif were also reported to be suffering from a throat infection and fever in the morning. Doctors had to be called to the team hotel and his indisposition prevented Dravid from attending the morning practice session at the Palam grounds.

Sehwag was admitted to hospital yesterday and spent his time on intravenous treatment, being fed with khichri and cornflakes. Though he was discharged in the evening, he’s been advised rest. ‘‘He doesn’t have fever but the swallowing problem is still there, he should take as much rest as he can,’’ added Dr Byotra.
