NEW DELHI, MAY 10: Norwegian Member of Parliament and special envoy Eric Solheim, who has been trying to facilitate a dialogue between Sri Lankan Government and LTTE, will be here on a day’s visit on Thursday to discuss with Indian officials the situation arising out of the ethnic conflict, a Foreign Office spokesman said today.
Responding to queries on Solheim’s visit, he said "in response to his request we have conveyed our readiness to receive him".
Solheim is expected to meet Foreign Secretary Lalit Mansingh and other officials in the External Affairs Ministry.
External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh had told Parliament last week that Norwegian initiative was not a workable solution in the present circumstances.
Asked about influx of refugees from Sri Lanka to India, the spokesman said he did not have any specific report in that regard.
The spokesman said India was following the developments in Sri Lanka and several countries were in touch with New Delhi on the situation there.
