Water woes of the residents of the northern part of the city are likely to end soon, as they will start receiving regular water supply from next week. The Pune Municipal Corporation is currently carrying out necessary trials at the Holkar water pumping station. This new pumping station would provide 40 million liters of water per day.
“We have started conducting trial runs from the last week of November. We found that there was some turbidity, which we are going to remove. There should be no problem in starting the supply of water in the next 3-4 days,” said C S Metkari, special officer for the project.
Vimannagar, Lohegaon, Kalvad Vasti, Tingarenagar, Kalas, Dhanori, Vidyanagar and Khese Park come under this project. Till now, these areas were getting waster under a World Bank scheme.
The construction for the pumping station had started in 2001, but had been stalled in 2002 due to some legal issues. However, the work resumed in 2006, which is almost complete now.
In this plan, water would be brought from the Warje pumping station. The pumping station has a water purification unit, chemical house, pump house, 50 MLD filter house and wash water tank. Under this plan, water tanks have been raised in Vimannagar, Dhanori and Kalas.
