The Supreme Court today directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to continue with the departmental inquiry against its senior bureaucrat Neera Yadav for alleged land allotment irregularities in Noida when she was its CEO.

A Bench headed by Justice Arijit Pasayat said the departmental inquiry could go ahead along with the CBI probe.

The Bench also comprising Justices C.K. Thakker and L.S. Panta, which had taken strong exception to the Mulayam Singh government’s decision to drop departmental proceedings against the former chief secretary, said the criminal probe by any agency did not prohibit departmental inquiry.

The departmental inquiry started against Yadav in 1998 was dropped four years later after which the SC appointed a committee headed by retired judge Justice KT Thomas to probe whether she had favoured her family members and kin of former CM Mayawati. The panel had arrived at the conclusion that Yadav had abused her official position to amass wealth by corrupt and illegal means.
