No visitors for them since tragedy called

Three days after Salman Khan’s Landcruiser wrecked their lives, the pain has permeated further into the lives of Muslin Niyamat Sheikh and Adbullah Abdul Rauf Sheikh.

Lying in the Bhabha Hospital ICU with plastered limbs, their lonely battle has begun. For starters no one has cared to pay them a visit. ‘‘No one from the Khan family, no politician, no social worker or police official has bothered to visit us,’’ says Muslin. The only visitor is his father who rushed from Gondha in UP. ‘‘Gaon mein sukha pada hai (There is a drought in the village). My father had to take a loan to come here,’’ he says.

Enter Jaipur at own risk: Sena to Salman

JAIPUR: The Rajasthan Shiv Sena on Tuesday announced it would not allow Salman Khan to enter the state. ‘‘If the actor, accused of killing a person by rash driving in Mumbai, poaching protected wild animals in Rajasthan and misbehaving with Aishwarya Rai, tried to enter the state, he will be responsible for the consequences,’’ state Sena chief Nanak Ram Thawani said in a statement here. Salman is an ‘‘irresponsible fellow’’ who has hurt the feelings of animal lovers in Rajasthan and committed criminal offences, he said. (PTI)

Sabir Khan, Abdullah’s maternal uncle, says bakery owner J. Irani did meet him two times. ‘‘Other than that, there have been no visitors.’’

The other worrying bit is that bakery workers don’t have the luxury of job security. For the injured duo, hospitalisation could translate into jobless days after recovery. ‘‘Their jobs are not permanent ones. Aaj kaam hai to kaamai hai. Kal raste par aa sakte hai (Since they have a job today, they have a livelihood. Tomorrow, they may be on the street),’’ says Khan.

At the A-1 bakery, Irani sits guard outside his shop. No one is allowed to meet Kalim Pathan or Mannu Khan, the two other injured who were discharged from the hospital on Saturday. ‘‘You can talk to me. They are fine. Ask me whatever you want to know,’’ he says adamantly.

Irani says Salman came visiting on Saturday evening. No, Khan didn’t meet the injured. ‘‘They were not around,’’ he claims. Khan expressed his desire to shift the injured to a better hospital.

As inquiry gets going, Mumbai cops clam up

MUMBAI: Even as the state ordered a high-level probe into the Salman Khan episode, almost everyone involved with the case proceedings seemed to be tight-lipped about it. JCP (Law and Order) Ahmed Javed said he will submit his report within a few days. DCP Bipin Kumar refused to speak. ACP Subhas Jadhav said he had several other things on his mind. ‘‘This is not the only case I am handling. There are so many other cases we need to look into,’’ Jadhav said. A senior police inspector said: ‘‘We have given all the information we had.’’ (ENS)

‘‘He said he will bear the expenses. It’s the media that is making all the fuss. It was not his fault. He had applied the brakes but the system of the car is such that it got locked and the wheels swerved towards the shutters of the shops where these people were sleeping. What could he possibly have done?’’ Irani argues.

When someone points out that Khan was allegedly drunk, Irani hits back: ‘‘Woh to sab media wale kehte hein. He wasn’t.’’

He says he plans to shift the hospitalised duo to Holy Family Hospital, Hill Road. ‘‘I’ve talked to the sisters from Holy Family and other concerned authorities ,’’ he says. Bhabha Hospital Medical Superintendent Seema Malik says she has not received any communication of the kind from anyone.
