No SAD-BJP rift over US Nagar: Sushma

The Union Minister further said that Union Fertilizers Minister S.S. Barnala was the member of the core group of ministers which discussed the creation of smaller states. She said the Akali Dal could not claim that its concern on the Uttranchal state had not been taken into account.

She said the eventuality of the two Akali ministers being asked to resign by the Akali Dal from the Union cabinet would not arise, adding that the SAD and the BJP were in coordination with each other on the Udham Singh Nagar issue.

If there are any misgivings, these would be resolved by talking to Chief Minister P.S. Badal and SGPC president G.S. Tohra, she added. The Minister said Badal was also free to air his concerns to the BJP leaders by talking these issues over.

Later, addressing a function organised by the Kanya Mahavidayala here, the Union Minister said the foreign TV channels must get uplinking from Indian soil so that these could be brought under the purview of the laws prevailing in the country.

She said currently the foreign TV channels enjoyed virtual immunity from the Indian laws because of their uplinking from foreign soil.

She said the government had proposed to set up a broadcasting council on the pattern of the Press Council of India to entertain compaints regarding the programmes or channels. She, however, ruled out foreign equity participationin the print media.
