MUMBAI, January 9: The police have yet to make a breakthrough in the brutal assault on a British jockey Dickie George after he finished second in a race at the Mahalaxmi race course on Thursday.

Dickie sustained severe injuries on his face, head and stomach after being kicked and fisted by three suspected members of a mafia operating at the race course for losing a race on Wednesday afternoon, the police said.

Unconfirmed reports said the mafia is linked to a Dubai-based underworld gang. Said senior inspector Subash Jadhav of the Worli police station, there are no definite clues on the miscreants involved. "Investigations are on."

Royal Western India Turf Club’s security officer Minoo Irani said the club’s security advisor and ex-commissioner of police Julio Rebeiro has been asked to investigate into the matter.
