Despite the storm over Quattrochhi detention, the government on Monday backtracked on the earlier proposal to shorten the first-half of the Budget Session to allow members to campaign for the crucial UP polls. The reason: it is tied down with a heavy legislative business schedule for the session.

Following the Business Advisory Committee meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Priya Ranjan Dasmunsi said the government made a proposal not to reschedule the first phase of session ending on March 21.

The 19 sittings will be kept intact, but when the House reassembles after recess on April 18 for the second phase, 8220;we will take a call on the situation.8221;
