CHANDIGARH, July 2: To celebrate its Establishment Day, the Chandigarh Circle of State Bank of India SBI donated three wheelchairs to the Command Hospital, Chandimandir, along with kit bags for the soldiers recuperating at the hospital. The items were handed over by the SBI General Manager, T.S. Bhattacharya, to the hospital Commandant, Maj Gen Virendra Singh, at a function organised at the hospital premises today.

Speaking on the occasion, Bhattacharya said that the SBI has already donated a sum of Rs 11 crore to the Kargil Relief Fund, out of which Rs 5 crore was donated by the bank and the remaining Rs 6 crore was contributed by the employees. A sum of Rs 16,014 has also been collected by staff members from the local head office for the cause.

15 sets of crutches by Nevedac centre
The Nevedac Prosthetic Centre donated six wheelchairs and 15 sets of crutches to Western Command Hospital, Chandimandir, for the soldiers wounded in operations in the Kargil sector. Managing Director, Dr V.J.S. Vohra said that the centre would also provide all cooperation in providing artificial limbs and other orthopaedic as well as rehabilitation equipment to the victims.

Withdraw infiltrators: SAD
Members of Chandigarh unit of Akali Dal Badal today buried an effigy of Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif near the roundabout of Sector 29, 31, Industrial Area Phase I and II.

They were protesting the infiltrations into the Indian territory by the Pakistan army. They condemned the act of pushing armed infiltrators into our territory.

Addressing the gathering, Gurpartap Singh Riar, president of the Dal, blamed the ISI for the present situation in Kargil sector.

Carrying placards, the activists raised slogans against Pakistan and its policies. They demanded that Pakistan immediately withdraw the infiltrators from the Indian territory.

A large number of Muslims also joined the protest march after offering afternoon prayers.

Rs 7,100 towards Kargil fund
The Senior Citizens8217; Council of the UT has contributed Rs 7,100 towards Kargil fund. According to a statement released by S.D. Kalia, programme coordinator, the money would be sent to the concerned quarter through Resident Welfare Association, Sector 38.

  • Members of the PGI Engineers8217; Association have decided to donate one day8217;s salary towards Prime Minister8217;s Relief Fund. The decision was taken for the welfare of soldiers and their families effected by the Kargil conflict.
  • Members of the Residents Welfare Association, Sector 23, contributed Rs 10,000 for the families of jawans. The money is to be forwarded to the Army headquarters, New Delhi, towards the Army Central Welfare Fund.
  • SCL employees donate salary
    To express solidarity with the armed forces fighting against heavy odds in Kargil sector, the employees of Semiconductor Complex, in SAS Nagar, have contributed one day8217;s salary towards Army Welfare Fund.

    Haryana institute donates Rs 1,100
    The Chander Wati Goel Memorial Charitable Institution has donated a sum of Rs 1,100 towards the Chief Minister8217;s War Heroes Fund.

  • The employees of the Haryana Punjabi Sahitya Academy donated one day salary towards the Kargil Relief Fund. This was decided today in a meeting headed by the director of the Acacemy, Dr S.S. Arshi.
  • The employees and the officers of the Employment Department of the Haryana Government have decided to donate one day salary towards the War Heroes Relief Fund.
  • Fund to provide basic facilities
    The Panchkula district administration today in a meeting headed by the Deputy Commissioner, Saroj Siwatch, has decided to form a fund for providing basic facilities to Kargil victims admitted to the Command hospital, Chandimandir.
