
MUMBAI, JAN 3: Amit Nigam completed his third golf triumph of the season when he won the prestigious Gold Medal golf tournament, a 36-hole strokeplay competition of the Bombay Presidency Golf Club at the par-70 course in Chembur, today.
Nigam, who is 16 years, had earlier won the amateur category in the Mahindra Invitational and the BPGC Open.
The lanky amateur, who plays to a handicap of minuus seven, carded a none-too-impressive 80 today, but his aggregate of 156 strokes, 14 over par, saw him finish two strokes clear of Shivas Nath and Rohit Goyal. Both aggregated 156 strokes.
Nigam shot successive birdies on the fifth (par-4) and sixth (par-3), but thereafter his game fell away. He completed the front nine a three-over 38 and had a 42 over the last nine holes.
Mihir Chandra shot the day’s best round of 8-over 78 for an aggregate of 162 strokes.

Five goals, including a hat-trick, by M Prashant was the highlight of MLWB’s (Goregaon) 8-0 triumph overnine-strong Vasai Eskimos A in the BHA Second Division hockey league, sponsored by Punjab National Bank, at the Naigaum Police ground, today. Rajesh Pole (2) and Sandesh Trivedi were the other goal-getters for MLWB. In the Fourth Division encounter, Dolour’s United came from behind to beat Blue Dragon 3-2. Instant football tourney
The 13th instant football tournament among the six centres of the annual camp for boys under-16 of the Bipin Memorial Association will be held at the Cooperage on January 8 and 9. A two-leg match between the girls of Borivli/Malad and Andheri/Parel will be held concurrently.
