Free Hepatitis B immunisation
The local Lion’s Club organised a free Hepatitis B Immunisation Camp for deaf and dumb students, in which 60 students and teachers were immunised, a press release said.
World Earth Day celebrations

Traffic police move resented
The local unit of the Federation of Small Scale Industries has criticised the move of the traffic police to restrict movement of trucks in the city. This was stated in a a meeting held today, according to a press release issued by the federation Secretary Rajeev Gupta said.The federation has demanded that the city police should include the Industrial Area and the transport area in the proposed route for movement of trucks.
`Treat Punjabi at par with Hindi’
The local unit of Shiromani Akali Dal has demanded that Punjabi be introduced at par with Hindi in all the boards, institutions, corporations and schools of the Union Territory. The party’s local unit general secretary, N S Minhas, said that a Shiromani Akali Dal delegation would soon meet Punjab Governor Lt Gen B K N Chhibber (retd) in this regard.
Housing scheme for tenants urged
The Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee has urged the UT Administrator for formulating more schemes to provide housing units to all those who have been residing legitimately in rented accommodation in the City for the past over ten years. According to a CTCC spokesman, Rajiv Sharma, since there was already an acute shortage of houses for the lower, middle and lower middle class in the City, the rising cost of land and construction made it impossible for such economic groups to fulfil their demand of owning a house.
Bahujan Bachao Morcha rally
Activists of the Bahujan Bachao Morcha took out a rally here today. Starting from the Sector 22 Nehru Park, the activists marched to the Mini Secretariat. According to the Morcha convener, Ravinder Bhatti, a memorandum to the UT Adviser, the Morcha demanded retention of Chandigarh as UT and withdrawal of cases against Karsan Colony residents.
