New Delhi, May 10: The four task forces set up to deal with issues concerning the country’s intelligence apparatus, internal security, border management and management of defence will be headed by bureaucrats G C Saxena, N N Vohra, Madhav Godbole and former Union Minister Arun Singh respectively.
The task forces, which have been asked to submit their recommendations in three months, were set up by the group of ministers who are reviewing the national security system in its entirety and in particular consider the recommendations of the Kargil review committee.
The group of ministers, that includes Home Minister L K Advani, who is chairman, Defence Minister George Fernandes, External Affairs Minister Jaswant Singh and Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha, held its third meeting today.
National Security Adviser brajesh Mishra, Cabinet Secretary Prabhat Kumar and National Security Council secretariat Satish Chander also attended the meeting.
During today’s meeting, the group of ministers consulted three of the four designated chairmen of the task forces who were present for finalisation of their terms of reference.
The task forces will comprise experts in relevant areas as members. After the recommendations are submitted the group of ministers will deliberate on the reports and make their own proposals for implementation to the government.
