NEW DELHI, June 24: Passengers on the Rome bound AirIndia Airbus A-310, had a narrow escape when one of the engines failed in mid-air. According to officials at the airport, Air India flight AI-135 bound for Manchester via Rome took off from the Indira Gandhi International Airport at 8:25 a.m. The pilot of the aircraft informed the control tower at about 8:45 a.m. that one of the engines of the aircraft had failed and he was heading back to land.

A full emergency was declared at the airport, and fire tenders and ambulances were stationed on the tarmac, however the aircraft landed at the airport safely at 9:44 a.m.
