Hoshangabad MP, July 16: Even a month after the onset of the monsoon in the Narmada valley, the Narmada is flowing much below its normal level at this time of the year, according to an official.

8220;The situation is the same along the entire 1,270-kilometre course of the Narmada from Amarkantak in Madhya Pradesh to Bharuch in Gujarat and it seems the clouds have forgotten the Valley8221;, the officer in-charge of the central region of the Central Water Commission, R P Saxena, told PTI here today.

Saxena said a total of 130 millimetres of rainfall was recorded at Hoshangabad between June 15 and July 14 while Jamtara Jabalpur recorded 139.6 mm during the same period.

The river was flowing 27 feet below the danger mark of964 feet at hoshangabad till yesterday and its tributary tawa was flowing 36 feet below its danger level of 1,166 feet in the district.

The hill resort of Pachmarhi, known as the Cherapunji of Madhya Pradesh for the heavy rainfall it receives, had also registered marginal rainfall this year, he added.
