Nanotech to the aid of soldiers in Siachen

Nano-robots are among the nanotechnology devices in medicine that would soon be made available by the upgraded Life Sciences Lab in Coimbatore, said CRDO’s chief controller (R&D) A Sivathanu Pillai.

A simple nano-respirocyte injection can help soldiers guarding the frontiers in Siachen and other high-altitude areas get them more oxygen from the blood instead of depending on external sources. Nano-robots could soon be used to clean up cholesterol clogging the arteries of a patient and even his ulcers.

Making a presentation at the State Planning Commission on the prospects of Nanotechnology in the 11th Plan period, Pillai said the DRDO with assistance from Arkansas University, has offered to develop a major research and development centre for nanotechnology devices and products in Tamil Nadu.
