Cyber police arrest 2 from Sirsa in Rs 15 lakh online fraud case
While Abhay Kumar was sent to judicial custody, Jatin Kumar was sent to a three-day police remand for further interrogation.
The accused were produced before the court on Friday The Cyber Crime team of Panchkula police arrested two accused allegedly involved in a cyber fraud case amounting to Rs 15.74 lakh.
DCP (Crime) Manpreet Singh Sudan said, “A resident of Pinjore had lodged a complaint at the Cyber Crime police station on July 31, 2024, stating that on May 11, 2024, while scrolling through Facebook, he came across an advertisement containing a WhatsApp link for investment in the stock market. After clicking on the link, he was asked to upload his personal documents to a fake website. Initially, the accused offered small profits to win his trust, but later, through multiple transactions, they cheated him of Rs 15,74,000. The investigation was being conducted by Sub-Inspector Bhup Singh.”
Acting on the leads, a team led by Cyber SHO Yudhvir Singh conducted a raid in Sirsa and arrested two accused, Abhay Kumar and Jatin Kumar, alias Jayant, both residents of Sirsa, on October 23, police said.
The accused were produced before the court on Friday. While Abhay Kumar was sent to judicial custody, Jatin Kumar was sent to a three-day police remand for further interrogation.
“Police are gathering detailed information about the bank accounts and mobile phones of the accused to trace the entire fraud amount and probe other possible cybercrimes linked to them,” the DCP added.
