MUMBAI, JAN 8: Muralikrishna (AP) fell one step short. He was ousted from the last stage of the qualifying rounds for the BPL Super Series badminton tournament organised by the Badminton Lover’s Trust at the Bombay Gymkhana today.

Muralikrishna defeated Delhi’s Kapil 21-9 in the morning and then got past Alok Singh in the second round after Singh had got a walk-over. The effort proved too much for the AP player as he went down 11-21 to Abhijit Nampally of Karnataka. The matches involved only one game of 21 points.

Nampally might have a slight problem tomorrow when the main draw start as he runs into Maharashtra’s Vikrant Patwardhan in the first round. The left-handed Patwardhan may not be having his best season but will be very difficult to get past for Nampally.

Top seed P Gopi Chand opens proceedings in the morning with a match against Maharashtra’s Mayur Tawade. The other tough match is likely to be the one between Siddarth Jain and 18-year-old Sachin Ratti, finalist at the Natu Memorial tournament in Pune last week.
