IMPHAL, JULY 28: Sepoy R K Ashli of the `First Naga Regiment’ made the last trip to his village Makha in Senapati district today.

The flower-bedecked coffin containing Ashli, who laid down his life fighting Pakistani intruders at Drass on July 23 reached Makha this morning and the last rites were performed before a large congregation of grief-stricken family members, friends and local people.

Ashli’s mortal remains reached Imphal airport last evening and were received with full military honours.

Ashli was one of the heroes of the regiment who had captured a strategic peak in Drass after evicting the enemy in a fierce battle. However, heavily shelling by enemy artillery targetted the company and one shell landed near Ashli, killing him.
