
NEW DELHI, Aug 13: To mark the 51st Independence Day, Northern Railway is introducing nine new trains, extending the run of two and increasing the frequencies of some others.
Also, on August 15, the Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi Express will acquire a new look. Its newly-designed coaches, having cellphone and better food services, will be hauled by a high-speed engine.
Northern Railway General Manager S P Mehta told reporters here today that the new trains were: the Muzaffarpur-New Delhi Swatantra Senani express (bi-weekly), Jodhpur-Varanasi Marudhar express (tri-weekly), Jodhpur-Ahmedabad express (tri-weekly), Bikaner-Bandra express (four days a week), Ludhiana-Hisar passenger, Fazilka-Bhatinda passenger, Habibganj (Bhopal)-Nizamuddin (Delhi) express, Kunda-Varanasi express and Bhatinda-Abohar passenger.
The Marudhar express, the Bikaner-Bandra express, the Hisar-Ludhiana and Fazilka-Bhatinda passenger trains will be introduced on Independence Day.
The Jodhpur-Ahmedabad express would begin its run fromAugust 16. The dates for starting the remaining four trains were yet to be finalised. Also, the Bhagalpur-Dadar Shramshakti express will be extended up to Guwahati once a week and the Rohtak passenger will be run till Bhiwani, Mehta said.
The Kunda-Darbhanga, Pune-Varanasi and the Surat-Patna express will run twice a week from August 15, 16 and 20. The Nanded-Amritsar Jharkhand express would run five days a week from August 18, Mehta said.
At Kapurthala, Rail Coach Factory (RCF) General Manager V P Ojha told reporters that the new-look Swaran Shatabdi’ express would be flagged off on August 15 from New Delhi railway station by Railway Minister Nitish Kumar.
The 16 coaches designed for the train by the RCF have plush new interiors, large windows and axle-mounted disc brake system imported from Germany.
