Rahul Khanna is a total contrast to star sibling Akshaye. For starters, he8217;s an interviewer8217;s delight warm and easygoing. If at all there8217;s something he doesn8217;t want to discuss, he brushes it off politely. An attitude he8217;s perhaps picked up in the Big Apple. Rahul, who studied acting and film-making in New York, spends most of his time there, and is fresh from a hectic off-Broadway production of Ayub Khan Din8217;s play, East Is East. quot;It was exhausting. We had an 11-week run with as many as eight shows a week! I played Tariq, the son of a Pakistani father and English mother, who grows up in Manchester. It had a complete 8217;70s look polyester pants, Beatles haircut, the works.quot;
But that8217;s not why Vinod Khanna8217;s older son is making headlines in Mumbai. It8217;s his presence in Deepa Mehta8217;s 1947-Earth which has made Rahul the object of curiosity ever since he landed here last week. quot;I was working with MTV in Singapore when Deepa called me up to offer Hassan8217;s part in the film she8217;d watched me on the channel anddecided to hire me. After several long telephonic conversations, we finally met and I was signed on.quot; And the timing could not have been more perfect. Rahul had spent five years at MTV8217;s Asian base, and was beginning to feel the urge to return to acting.
Incidentally, he confesses he8217;s a big fan of his 1947 co-star. quot;I am so impressed with her, I compare every actress I watch, to her.quot; And he8217;s equally partial to kid brother Akshaye. quot;He8217;s extremely talented and very inspiring to watch. I just saw Taal and felt he8217;s very effortless in front of the camera.quot; What about doing a film with his famous father and brother? quot;I8217;d love to work with both of them.
