
A spotted deer, known as chital in Marathi, which was found near a housing society in Bavdhan on Tuesday by some local residents, was released back into the forest on Wednesday, after giving it the necessary first-aid.
The deer had apparently strayed from the woods surrounding the National Defence Academy (NDA) and was released at the same place.
A resident of Shantivihar Housing Society in Vidnyan Nagar area in Bavdhan, Puneet Rustoji, had first noticed the deer entering the society premises on Tuesday morning. He tried to follow it. However, he lost the trail as the deer disappeared into a nearby thicket .
On Wednesday morning, local residents in Bavdhan, Devendra Vede-Patil and Namdeo Gaikawad again spotted the deer running and escaping from the chasing dogs. The deer had injuries near its mouth.
When contacted, Vede-Patil said, “We noticed the deer trying to protect itself from the dogs early morning. We caught it a couple of hours later. When we caught it, it was bleeding and therefore, we informed the forest officials.” The forest official, Ankush Wanjale, rushed to the spot.
The deer was taken to the animal orphanage in Katraj in a car for medication. After providing necessary first-aid to the animal, it was released back into the NDA woods by afternoon.
