
Virar bandh today
MUMBAI, April 22: Over 50,000 telephone subscribers in Virar and Vasai have organised a bandh on Thursday, April 23. The subscribers are protesting the high-handedness8217; of Department of Telecommunications DOT officials who have allegedly failed to rectify minor faults of private subscribers while going all out to help commercial STD/ISD PCO owners.
State assures M V amp; L U teachers
The State Additional Chief Secretary Higher and Technical Education, R C Iyer, has assured teachers of MV amp; LU college that their pending salaries will be paid to them after holding talks with the college principal and the deputy director of education.
Nearly 35 teachers of MV amp; LU college had staged a dharna at Azad Maidan on Wednesday to protest the illegal withholding of their salaries by college authorities. 8220;We were contacted by the additional chief secretary in the evening, who spoke to our delegation comprising A J Singh, S M Paranjape, M R Andhalkar, D M Oza and K R Sharma atlength in his office,8221; said President of Mumbai Junior College Teachers8217; Union, Amar J Singh.
Rationing Samitee dharna
The Rationing Kruti Samitee organised a dharna on Wednesday at Azad Maidan to raise various issues related to rationing. The Minister for Food and Civil Supplies reportedly told Samitee representatives that the government cannot provide all the quotas as per ration norms to everybody and ration will be allotted on a first come basis. The minister also reportedly added that the government would be soon issuing three types of cards: one which would help access to all rations, one only for kerosene and sugar, and the third for a card with nothing available on it.
